I am excited to make my debut as a choreographer this fall semester!! I decided to share my concept with you guys!
One of my favorite movies over the years has become La La Land. From the music, to the dancing, to the story the movie takes you through... it encapsulates the dreaminess of love and life, but also the harsh realities of life as you try to accomplish your dreams.
The concept for my first piece focuses on dreams. I am choreographing to the song The Fools Who Dream. I think it’s a vague idea, but very relevant to how humans live their lives and how they find what motivates them. Dreams and goals are a big part of my life and I hope they are part of yours too. I write mine down to help me visualize them everyday. Almost everything I do everyday is for me to get closer to those dreams. The journey is not easy. It has taken a toll on me mentally and physically and quite honestly I have my moments where I break down and want to give up. That is what I want to focus on. That breaking point or where we have worked so hard to get to where we want to be and are so close but not just ‘there’ yet... How long can you dream until you are just tired of it??
I want to acknowledge all artists and all humans as a matter for pushing through with their biggest dreams and making it in the end! Gary Vaynerchuk always says that the journey is more important than the actual goal... and that has always stuck with me. My journey right now has been quite challenging, but everything that has come in my way has not stopped me! Often I look back and smile and think “wow, I did that.” This is what I want to evoke through my choreography, through my lovely dancers, and to the audience.
A tribute to dreams and how they drive our lives. The excitement, the vulnerability, and most importantly, the journey.
I cannot wait to see how this piece unfolds (that is another journey in itself as I am teaching remote). Stay tuned for the process and the final results!! ( I will definitely keep you updated on social!)
Here’s to you... Here’s to the ones who DREAM!
